Our vibe

Our buzz. Our jam. Our why. Our heart.

At Envelope it’s not just about going through the motions or getting through the work day. We’ve got a bit more to us than that. Actually, way more.

We want to know why are we doing things this way? Why is it important to have values? And how can we think outside the box to support our team, our clients, and our community.

And while we often work with angles, edges and squares in our work, we also love curves, curls, and even loops. No two days are the same for us – and we like it that way.

At Envelope we work hard and play hard – in that order, but both are vital to a sense of well-being and fulfilment.

We like full belly laughs, full hearts, and our glasses half full (or more) – in every sense of the word!

We’re like a box of fireworks. Light the fuse and stand well clear.

Our values
wHat we stand for

Our values are what define us. What makes us tick. What makes us sing. What makes us strive. They’re at the core of why we do what we do.

We worked on them together as a team, and they’re not just words to us. They’re with us every day, just like a tattoo. (*Note, you do not have to have a tattoo to work here. It helps, but it’s not compulsory!)

Find out a bit more here about who we are, the values we carry with us daily, and what keeps us charging during the busy times.

Our story
Where we sprang from

Like many great ideas, Envelope was born at a kitchen table. Some chat, some ideas, most likely over some coffee and some eggs.

Which is fitting since the site of this first “office” in Egmont Street was also the scene of one of Wellington’s most infamous burglaries: a chicken factory.

Dynamite-packing and determined thieves broke into the building, looking for money.

According to a report in the New Zealand Herald, on October 10, 1924, the thieves must have scaled a telegraph pole, then climbed along a roof to get through a window into the factory.

The next day a staff member found the safe, with a shattered lock, atop a pile of books and clothes to muffle the sound of a detonation.

But the safe had resisted the explosion. Had the thieves been able to bust it open, they would have been rewarded with £30 – but instead had to make do with a handful of shillings from a till.

At the Egmont Street site, the garage door is emblazoned with an artwork by illustrator Stephen Templer, recalling the failed chicken factory heist.

We work with fireworks of a different kind now. We like to create booms and pops everywhere with innovative and energetic work, guided by our values and not forgetting where we came from.

Team Envelope has more than 30 staff across four locations. We’re not packing dynamite these days. We are the dynamite.

Community
Making it count

Community is more important these days than ever.

Coming together, going the distance to help, and taking action.

We’re passionate about this and have a real drive to make a difference where we can.
