Wellington Structural Team Lead

Did he run with the jocks or with the geeks?

It’s hard to say with Nik Gkogkos. He had a stamp collection, but his childhood dream was to be a professional footballer. So maybe both?

Nik, who joined Envelope in 2022, was born and raised in Thessaloniki, a city in northern Greece. His current home in Wellington reminds him of his birthplace in Greece.

From an early age he travelled through Europe playing football and seeing the sights. It instilled in him a love for travel which has stayed with him.

It also meant working in a team was, and is, something which is important to him, having been instilled in his DNA from an early age.

Architecture was a passion for Nik, and he found the curves and lines of bridges fascinating. With maths and physics being his strongest subjects, engineering seemed a perfect fit. Nik graduated with a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, followed by one in Earthquake Engineering.

Nik spent four years in Athens before he moved to New Zealand in 2012.  A decade later he joined Team Envelope, with his role focused on inspiring and developing the capital’s structural team and building on their already fantastic reputation.

Outside work Nik loves spending time with his wife and daughter and getting together with friends, going to the gym or watching a movie. He loves sampling different cuisines from around the world, and as a diehard coffee fan, says nothing beats a freddo espresso. Living in the capital, he is bound to have his choice of cool coffee houses.

Now he runs with the chic geeks at Envelope, Nik looks set to continue with a work hard, play hard philosophy. Stamp collecting included.
