Leidy Burgos

Civil Engineer | GIS Specialist

Since day one Leidy has had a thirst for knowledge.

She could barely wait to start school, ready on her first day long before it was time to go, and yelling excitedly at her father to hurry up or she would be late.

Since then, her love for education and passion for travel have taken her to 28 countries. Fortunately for Envelope, Colombia-born Leidy has chosen to land in New Zealand,

starting at Envelope’s Mount office in 2023.

She grew up with her parents and younger brother in Tunja, Boyacá county. At 16 Leidy set off for the Colombian capital Bogota for more learning and life experience. She studied topography, and with a passion for numbers, knew her career should involve them. Civil engineering fit the description.

Next up she headed to Ireland to study English, then lived in Germany to work on her Master’s degree in Photogrammetry and Geoinformatics, specialising in GIS.

Leidy’s biggest influences growing up were her parents, who taught her respect for others, resilience, and to live by strong morals and ethics. Her father also instilled in her the value of hard work and saving money to achieve goals.

Her role at Envelope involves working with Civil 3D and ArcGIS, generating catchments plans, managing and analyzing geospatial information, generation of GDB (geodatabase) and creation of interactive web maps.

Leidy felt at home at Envelope straight away, with a supportive environment and people open to helping each other. And resonating with her Colombian upbringing, she says Envelope values hard work, and rewards it accordingly.

Outside of work, Leidy likes to continue adventuring through sampling different cuisine from around the world. She loves sushi, Mexican food (but hold the spice!), and seafood. Pair that with an ice-cold cider or a cocktail, and Leidy is one happy lady!

With all her travelling, the sea and the beach are her favourite places to relax and rejuvenate. The Maldives is top of the list, with Leidy saying the people and the peace there are second to none.

She loves to spend time with her husband and has plenty more exploring planned from their Bay of Plenty home base. Fantastico!
