Jonathan Beckett

Graduate Surveyor

A liking for maths and a love for the outdoors brought Jonathan Beckett to surveying.

Wellington-born, he was strongly influenced by his parents growing up in the hills of Brooklyn. His dad was inspirational in his “unmatched ability to make things work”, whether it be a garden project or a broken object which was a puzzle to figure out. And his mother was a librarian with an encyclopaedic knowledge of “pretty much everything”, with Jonathan becoming an avid reader under her watch.

Jonathan studied for a Bachelor of Surveying at Otago University, which he completed in 2023. But he actually started working at Envelope as an intern during the summer of 2021, working there in university breaks until he started fulltime in 2024.

He has found Envelope a great environment for a graduate to learn and grow, with plenty of people willing to share their experience, or talk over a challenge.

Jonathan’s favourite way to spend a weekend is on a camping trip, taking along his telescope to look at the stars he is sleeping under. The black sand beaches of White Rock in the Wairarapa are a favourite.

And down time will almost always find him outside, whether it be reading a book in the park, or having a kick around with friends. He is a lifelong football fan.

Jonathan will never say no to a catch up at the pub with friends, especially if a pub quiz is on offer. He has caught the fever for collecting records, with the beginnings of an epic collection at home. As avid vinyl lovers say, the vinyl tells the story of your life. Jonathan is looking forward to seeing what the next chapters bring.
